Independence Day marked with spirit, zeal in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata - Business Recorder

Likewise, the other part of the country, the flag hoisting ceremonies, special functions, and rallies held to mark 67th Independence Day in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

The day dawned with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals. It is a public holiday throughout the country. Special prayers offered for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country. There was observed a pause, followed by sirens to herald flag hoisting events. Today's main event was held at KP Governor House, wherein flag hoisting ceremony organised, wherein Governor honoured awards and metals to recipients in recognition of their services for the country.

The nation celebrated 67th Independence Day on Wednesday with renewed passion and abiding commitment to safeguarding the country against any threat and re-dedication towards nation-building in accordance with the vision of the founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Streets, localities, markets and government buildings in the provincial metropolis Peshawar have been decorated with colourful buntings, ribbons, green flags and pennons and multicolour lights in different cities. Special stalls have been set up in different bazaars, including Qissa Khwani Bazaar in the city and Liaquat Bazaar in cantonment, where customers, mostly children and students, witnessing buying national flags, stickers and badges to celebrate the day of country's inception.

Most people have badges of national flags pinned to their chest. The buildings are shining with electric lights and bulbs with festivities in full swing in every nook and corner of the country. National anthems and songs are being played on several places.

Despite the vacations of governments departments, public and private schools, special programmes were arranged on this auspicious occasion, expressed a great spirit of nationalisation and patriotism. The Peshawar city road was bustling with people celebrating the day, especially youth decorating bikes and vehicles roaming on main trunk road. Shopkeepers also hoisted national flag and playing national songs, to celebrate the day with great national spirit and zeal.

The schools were organised national song competitions and held a special flag hoisting ceremony, to mark the day. Kids and youth are rejoicing by dressing up with special two colours, White and green Shalwar and Kameez, and took to main streets and roads of the provincial metropolis Peshawar.

The flag hoisting ceremony held at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture University Peshawar, wherein all faculty members, deans, chairman, director finance and additional director finance and other senior officials were gathered outside Institute of Business Management Services, IBMS premises. University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Afzal as chief guest. Similarly, a flag hoisting ceremony was arranged in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, and other major teaching hospitals along with periphery health facilities to mark the day.

Likewise, the University of Peshawar organised Independence Day celebrations at its Bara Gali summer camp. The varsity rector, prof Dr Rasul Muhammad Jan addressed the participants via telephone during the ceremony. On the occasion, Jamil Ahmad Chitrali, and Principal University Model School, Javed Khalid were present. Last night, the Department of Pakistan Studies and Islamic History arranged a quest competition, which was created awareness about the sacrifices of forefathers for separate homeland and independence of the state. Later, a rally was also taken out and independence torch put on main square of the university camp.
