SC orders action against MI official - Pakistan Observer

Wednesday, August 14, 2013 - Islamabad—The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered immediate action against Major Haider of the Military Intelligence (MI) for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of one Tasif Ali alias Danish.

A two member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Chaudhry Ijaz, issued the directive during the hearing of a case relating to the disappearance of Ali. During the hearing, the Ministry of Defence told the court that the MI had already proclaimed having no knowledge of Ali's disappearance.

The court directed Secretary Defence Lt Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik to provide the police with Major Haider's address within 10 days' time. The hearing was subsequently adjourned for 10 days. The case of Tasif Ali came to light when his wife, Abida Malik, alleged that her husband was picked up by Major Haider on November 23, 2011 from Azad Kashmir.

Ali's father-in-law Dr Mohammad Aslam had informed the court earlier that his son-in-law had an altercation over telephone with the major a day before his abduction.

According to him, Major Haider may be a business partner of Ali, a timber trader. Dr Aslam had said he had also met Major Haider, but the latter was not accessible since the meeting.
